When it comes to agricultural drone services, the DJI Agras T50 is our go-to machine. This drone is an agricultural spraying powerhouse, purpose-built for tasks like crop spraying and spreading fertilizers or seeds. Here’s what makes the Agras T50 stand out:
The T50 features a revolutionary coaxial twin-rotor design (two motors and propellers on each arm, stacked) which gives it tremendous lift capacity in a relatively compact frame . It can carry a spray tank of about 10.5 gallons (40 liters) , which is significantly more than older ag drone models. In practical terms, this means the drone can treat more acreage per flight. Despite the heavy load, the coaxial propellers provide stability and power, even in moderate winds.
Equipped with a dual atomized spraying system, the T50 atomizes liquids into fine droplets for even coverage . We can also attach up to 4 nozzles, which yields a wide spray swath (about 30-36 feet wide per pass) . The flow rate is impressive, allowing the T50 to cover up to 50-60 acres per hour in ideal conditions at a standard application rate . The drone automatically regulates its flow and speed to ensure uniform application. It even adjusts droplet size on the fly – for example, using smaller droplets for dense foliage to improve adhesion
While its primary function is spraying, the Agras T50 is versatile. It has front and rear phased-array radars and a binocular vision system for obstacle sensing . This not only keeps it safe in flight (detecting trees, wires, etc.), but also enables terrain-following – it maintains a constant height above crops even if the ground elevation changes. The T50 also supports mapping missions; it can fly a survey pattern to create a field map (useful for planning spray routes or doing crop scouting). In fact, DJI’s software ecosystem (DJI Terra) integrates with the T50, meaning we can map a field and then seamlessly transition to spraying specific areas identified in the map
Farming environments can be harsh with dust, moisture, and uneven terrain. The T50 is built to withstand these, featuring a durable airframe with an IP rating (water resistance) and easily swappable batteries for continuous operation. It’s designed to be a workhorse – quick to deploy and easy to maintain. Our choice of the T50 was in large part because it can sustain high-tempo operations – refilling and getting back in the air repeatedly – which is exactly what’s needed for custom application services on multiple farms per day.
